Marcela Galindo is an 18-year-old young activist who advocates for the freedom of learning, climate-change action, and health for all.  She was born in Recife and raised in Aldeia-Camaragibe, much close to the Atlantic Forest. The youngest daughter of an educator

has a personal connection to nature and knowledge, she studied most of her life with scholarships, has an Environment Technician Degree, and is currently studying to join a public Medicine School. Marcela longs to become a doctor who practices medicine without borders, driven by love. NGOs and social services were always part of her sense of self, as a kid she assisted her mother in events for underprivileged children, and as a teen, she volunteered in several organizations on topics such as leadership, study abroad, and human rights, besides counseling other young leaders like her.

 Four years ago LALA was a life-changing opportunity in this young leader’s journey, she explored to a full extent the opportunities offered by the ecosystem and engaged in Admissions for three years before taking the position of Alumni Coordinator for Admissions. Marcela is eager to grow by hearing life stories. wants to continue understanding people’s passions, culture, and purposes. Her main job within the team is to contribute to the selection of the most proactive leaders in Latin America and coordinate an Alumni Team of evaluators in order to keep LALA’s community alive and at its full potential.

Weird but fun fact, I’m naturally ambidextrous! Both sides of my brain function in pretty similar ways, so I’m able to do activities equally with either my left or right hand - I call it my superpower.

I love sharing peculiar facts about something, especially out of the sudden, just for the fun of it, random pieces of knowledge are my thing.

Deepening my spirituality is a continuous work in my life, I’m frequently meditating, learning about the gospel, and engaged in my spiritual community events.

Music is a big part of me, I have a playlist for each mood of mine, and learning how to play musical instruments is one of my favorite hobbies.

When I was four years old I wanted to be a surfer, so I would weekly take the surfboard to the pool and I would try to stand up in it for more than 10 seconds - that’s how I thought professional surfers would prepare for olympiads.

Each year I target to read more books than the previous year, my goal for 2024 is to read 50 books.

I’m extremely competitive and clumsy when the subject is games, regardless if it’s a board game like “Dominó” and ”ONU”, or a game related to sports like Basketball. If we ever have a “LALA olympiads” I advise you to be on my team so we can have a great time together!"
