Sebastian Mejía is the co-founder and President of Rappi, a foundational company in LatAm with a vibrant local commerce ecosystem for consumers, merchants, and couriers. Customers can access products and services focusing on groceries and restaurants, including 10 min deliveries. The company also operates a financial services business. The mission of the company is to drive progress across the region through the digitization of commerce and financial services.
As a leader, Sebastian is an active member of the technology startup ecosystem and a supporter of nonprofit initiatives.“Sebas is the perfect example of the new wave of leadership we wish to unleash in the region: innovative, bold, ethical, and driven by a profound and genuine desire to solve real problems in the region,” shared Diego Ontaneda, LALA’s co-founder and CEO. “In addition, his personal experience scaling Rappi, one of Latin America’s most outstanding companies, makes him an invaluable advisor to our leadership team as we ourselves enter a scaling phase.”
“Latam is witnessing the emergence of world-class tech companies that are transforming our region, and LALA is the analog of this in the not-for-profit world. A bold and effective organization that delivers results” shared Mejia. “As entrepreneurs, we build companies to solve deep-rooted problems that impact millions of people every day. It is important to recognize, however, that this is not enough. There are social problems that businesses alone cannot solve and that require social enterprises to fill in the gap. LALA’s approach to nurturing the next generation of leaders can have a profound impact in the region and in the world. I am excited to support their vision, Diego, and the inspiring young leaders that are part of LALA’s community.”
“I am really excited for the future of LALA and the region,” added Diego. “Bringing Sebas, a titan of the startup world, closer to our work and to the social entrepreneurship space more broadly will accelerate the rate at which big problems can be tackled in our region.”
